Ein Teil von uns
Female Photoclub Ausstellung COMMON GROUND (Bahnwärter Thiel)
"Common Ground means for me, a connection. A connection which brings us together – an alignment, a mutual understanding. This forms the foundation of who we are and how we are. It represents the relationship we have. It means that we share and are shared – through our heritage, our skin and above all, our unrequited love.
When I look at us, I see the connection with my daughter, created from the time she was born. This love is something that I have never felt before. I will love her unconditionally. However, there was always a silent fear. A fear that she would have Vitiligo. This silent fear stopped me for so many years even consider children. In addition, a pressure that had been instilled from my Indian heritage that was certainly not silent.
Now Vitiligo is a part of us and this brings us closer. Through my journey, I have developed as a stronger person and accepted and embraced that I am different. It has created a part of who I am today. I do not hide. I smile and this helps me. And this helps her in her journey too.
When I look at us here, I see love, determination, confidence and beauty. The connection of love helps me teach my daughter that Vitiligo is not a limitation, but a story written on the skin - a story of resilience, heritage, and individuality. One of strength and beauty." (Bowie)
